भा.कृ.अनु.प.-केन्द्रीय उपोष्ण बागवानी संस्थान, लखनऊ ने दिनांक 09.08.2018 को आम बागान पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र में ग्रामीण कुक्कुट के एकीकरण पर एक दिवसीय कार्यशाला का आयोजन किया। संस्थान के निदेशक डॉ. शैलेन्द्र राजन ने बताया कि देश की प्रसिद्ध आम फल पट्टी, मलिहाबाद के किसानों की आजीविका आधार को बढ़ाने के लिए आम के बागों के तहत ग्रामीण कुक्कुट का प्रदर्शन किया गया। एक साल के भीतर ही यह मॉड्यूल इतना लोकप्रिय हो गया कि यह मलिहाबाद के चार से अधिक गांवों में फैल गया। इस तकनीक को फैलाने में मीडिया द्वारा निभाई गई सक्रिय भूमिका के कारण, अब यह मॉड्यूल अन्य बागान पारिस्थितिक तंत्रों में भी अपनाया जा रहा है। उत्साही कुक्कुट किसानों ने कार्यशाला में भाग लिया और वैज्ञानिकों से कई प्रश्न पूछे। डॉ. आर.बी. राय, प्रसिद्ध पोल्ट्री विशेषज्ञ एवं पूर्व निदेशक- सी.ए.आर.आई. पोर्टब्लैयर, ने किसानों से बातचीत की और उन्हें प्रोत्साहित किया कि एज़ोला को आम बाग में पोल्ट्री फ़ीड के रूप में एकीकृत किया जाना चाहिए। यह न केवल लागत को कम करेगा बल्कि यह प्रोटीन और खनिजों का अच्छा स्रोत होगा। फार्मर्स फर्स्ट परियोजना मलिहाबाद के किसानों के बीच एज़ोला फ़ीड को फैलाएगी। डॉ. राय ने किसानों को सूचित किया कि वे कार्बनिक पोल्ट्री को अपनाने से अपनी आय बढ़ा सकते हैं। किसानों ने वचन दिया कि वे आम के लिए जैव कीटनाशकों और जैव उर्वरकों का उपयोग करेंगे। डॉ. राय ने मुर्गी के लिए हल्दी, अदरक और लहसुन आधारित मिश्रण तैयार करने के लिए सुझाव दिया और पूरी तरह से एंटीबायोटिक दवाओं को छोड़ने को कहा। उन्होंने कार्बनिक पोल्ट्री के लिए विस्तृत एसओपी दिया। डॉ. मनीष मिश्रा, परियोजना अन्वेषक, फार्मर्स फर्स्ट परियोजना और डॉ. राम अवध राम, प्रधान वैज्ञानिक, केन्द्रीय उपोष्ण बागवानी संस्थान ने किसानों के साथ बातचीत करते हुए बताया कि यह एक नई पहल है क्योंकि देश में कार्बनिक पोल्ट्री खेती का अभ्यास नहीं किया जा रहा है। किसान प्रारंभ में अप्रमाणिक कार्बनिक उपज के रूप में कुक्कुट मांस और अंडे बेच सकते हैं। डॉ. राजन ने कहा कि बाजार स्थापित करने के लिए जैविक आम बागों को प्रमाणित करने के प्रयास किए जाएंगे। डॉ. राजन ने बताया कि इस उद्यम को स्वयं टिकाऊ बनाने के लिए फार्मर्स फर्स्ट परियोजना के तहत गांव में दो हैचरियां स्थापित की जाएंगी। उन्होंने कहा कि केन्द्रीय पक्षी अनुसन्धान संस्थान, बरेली के वैज्ञानिकों को आम बागों के लिए उपयुक्त कुक्कुट स्ट्रेन को विकसित करने के लिए तैयार किया जाएगा। वर्तमान में कड़कनाथ स्ट्रेन मलिहाबाद के आम बागानों में लोकप्रिय विकल्प है क्योंकि इसकी बाजार में उच्च कीमत प्राप्त होती है। उच्च मूल्य प्राप्ति के अलावा, कड़कनाथ आम कीट को नियंत्रित करने के लिए भी उपयुक्त है। यह ऊंची उड़ान भर सकता है एवं आम कीटों को खा सकता है और इस तरह यह कीटनाशकों की आवश्यकता को कम करता है। कुक्कुट आम बागों हेतु एक उपयुक्त आवास है क्योंकि इसे खाने के लिए बहुत सारी कीड़े मिलते हैं। यह आम के बागों की मिट्टी को भी समृद्ध करता है।
ICAR-CISH, Lucknow organized one day workshop on integration of rural poultry in mango orchard ecosystem on 09.08.2018. Dr. Shailendra Rajan, Director, CISH, Lucknow informed that in order to enhance livelihood base of farmers of Malihabad, a famous mango fruit belt of the country, we demonstrated rural poultry under mango orchard. Within a year, this module became so popular that it spread to more than four villages in Malihabad. Due to active role played by media in spreading this technology, now this module is being adopted in other orchard ecosystems. Enthusiastic poultry farmers attended the workshop and asked several questions to scientists. Dr. R.B. Rai, renowned poultry expert and Ex-Director- CARI Portblair, A & Island interacted with farmers and exhorted that Azolla must be integrated in mango orchard as poultry feed. This will not only reduce the cost substantially but its good source of protein and minerals. Farmer FIRST project will spread Azolla feed among the farmers in Malihabad. Dr. Rai informed the farmers that they can augment their income by adopting organic poultry. Farmers pledged that they will use bio pesticides and bio fertilizers for mango. Dr. Rai gave tip to prepare turmeric, ginger and garlic based concoction for poultry and completely shun antibiotics. He gave detailed SOP for organic poultry. Dr. Maneesh Mishra, Principal Investigator, Farmer FIRST and Dr. Ram Awadh, Principal Scientist, CISH while interacting with farmers informed that this is a new initiative as organic poultry farming is not being practiced in the country. Farmers can sell poultry meat and egg as uncertified organic produce initially. Dr Rajan said efforts will be made to certify organic mango orchards for establishing niche market. Dr. Rajan informed that two hatcheries will be installed in the village under Farmer First project to make this venture self sustainable. He said scientist of CARI, Barelli will be roped in to develop suitable strain of poultry for mango orchards. At present Kadaknath strain is getting popular choice in mango orchards of Malihabad as it fetches high price in market. Besides high price realization, Kadaknath is suitable strain for controlling mango pest. It can fly high and feed on mango pests from the canopy and thereby reduce the need for pesticides. Poultry finds suitable habitat under mango orchards as it gets plenty of insects to feed. It also enriches soil of mango orchards.
