Scientist-students interaction cum Institute visit

A group of 79 students of B.Sc. (Agriculture) along with two faculty members from Sri Mahesh Prasad Degree Collage, Mohanlalganj, Lucknow Uttar Pradesh visited ICAR-CISH Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh on 8th August 2024. The importance of scientific institute in ensuring fruit and nutritional security was discussed. Research work on crop improvement biotechnology, production, and protection and post harvest management was explained to student. Mango varieties like Arunika, Ambika, Langra, Mallika and guava varieties like Shewta, Lalit Dhawal, Lalima was shown to student. student were apprised of newly released vegetable varieties like high yielding Pusa golden cherry tomato-2, Pusa Raunak Tinda, Pusa Long Green cucumber, Thar Prabha (high yielding wood apple) and Thar Amrit (high yielding custard apple) for nutritional requirements and enhancing farmers income. The need for protected cultivation, low cost polytunnel and polyhouse for producing vegetables were also emphasized. Biotic and abiotic stress of fruit plants and their management were also discussed to the students. Importance of soil and tree nutritional management for securing quality fruit production was also presented. The role of resource conservation and management for successful subtropical fruit production was explained. Students were motivated for adoption of integrated pest management in fruit crops for solving problems of the farming community. Adverse effects of climate change and importance of water conservation during fruit set to development was explained.
