A group of 35 farmers from Kaimur (Bhabhua) district, Bihar visited ICAR-CISH, Lucknow on July 26, 2024 under ATMA Programme. Scientist-Farmers interaction meeting was organized and technologies of subtropical fruit production, protection and post harvest value addition were disseminated to farmers. Awareness was created regarding Mango varieties Mallika, Amrapali, Arunika, Ambika and Lalit, Dhawal, Shewta, and Lalima verity of guava. High density plantations in mango and guava for enhancing productivity and fruit quality per unit area were discussed. The importance of fruit bagging for quality fruit production and fetching higher market price was explained. The role of natural resource conservation and management in subtropical fruit production was presented. The importance of nutritional management through soil and foliar nutrient management, drip irrigation with mulching subtropical fruits, value addition and processing of fruits were discussed. Crop diversification was given importance during the visit. To enhance farmers’ income, scientific initiatives of diversified fruit crops in non-traditional areas of subtropical region were discussed. Protected cultivation of vegetable crops was also explained to the farmers for higher productivity and income per unit area. Adverse effects of climate change and importance of water conservation during fruit set development was explained. During field visits, institute developed technologies in mango and guava orchards were explained. Dr. Naresh Babu (Principal Scientist) and Mr. Arvind Kumar (ACTO) delivered lectures and interacted with the farmers.
